Roma ready to beat Liverpool to signing of £8million Clichy

Roma are leading the chase to land Arsenal's Gael Clichy and are ready to offer £8million for the Frenchman.

Clichy has been told he can leave Arsenal if the right offer comes in and Liverpool were first to show their hand, offering £5million.

But Arsenal are keen to recoup more for the left-back despite the fact he only has a year left on his current deal.

Arsene Wenger is keen to reinvigorate his side this summer but will have to sell some of his stars to fund a spending spree - and Clichy is seen as expendable.

The 25-year-old's form has dipped and Wenger wants to cash in - with Roma eager to give Clichy a new chance in Italy.

According to sources in Italy, the Serie A side have told Arsenal they want to strike a deal for Clichy and with Liverpool out of the picture for now, Roma are confident they can land their man.
