Mikael Silvestre is due in Germany on Monday afternoon for a medical ahead of his proposed switch to Werder Bremen.
The 33-year-old left Arsenal earlier this summer after Arsene Wenger decided not to offer the defender another contract.
And Bundesliga club Bremen have won the race to sign the Frenchman, with Silvestre expected to be signed later today.
Meanwhile, long-term Arsenal target Pape Diakhate is in talks with Lyon.
The Senegal defender, 26, has been tracked by Wenger for some time but Lyon are currently negotiating with the Dynamo Kiev defender about a move to France.
