Ryo Miyaichi will miss Arsenal's first two games of the season but Arsene Wenger insists he will make a "big impact" during the rest of the campaign.
The 18-year-old winger, who has never represented Japan at senior level, was surprisingly granted a work permit to play for Arsenal this season on the grounds of being an "exceptional talent".
But Miyaichi, who impressed on loan at Feyenoord last season, is unavailable for Saturday's Premier League opener against Newcastle because he is still rubber-stamping his permanent visa in Japan.
Wenger has also confirmed the delay in the procedure will rule him out of Tuesday's visit of Udinese for Arsenal's Champions League qualifier - but has confirmed that he will be a part of his first team for the remainder of the season.
Wenger said: "We got the work permit for him because he is an exceptional talent. Overall we are very happy because he is one of the players who can have a big impact this season.
"He cannot play [against Newcastle], he is in Japan at the moment to get a permanent visa to come back and be registered with the Premier League.
"He will also not be available for the Champions League on Tuesday but he should be available after. He will play as a striker, right or left, he is a winger type, he is very keen."
