Tiger Woods wins first tournament since 2009

Tiger Woods wins the Chevron World Challenge

Tiger Woods has won his first golf tournament since 2009 after picking up the Chevron World Challenge in California.

The former world number one birdied the last two holes to beat fellow American Zach Johnson by a shot at Thousand Oaks, California.

Woods' last tournament win was the Australian Masters in November, 2009.

I felt that in order for me to play the way I know I can play, I had to get fully fit— Tiger Woods

The 35-year-old said afterwards: "It feels awesome whatever it is."

"I felt that in order for me to play the way I know I can play, I had to get fully fit. I had to get healthy and to where I was strong and explosive again so I could practice.

"I've been in contention twice this year, which is not very often, I had the lead at the Masters on the back nine there, and obviously had a chance there at the Aussie Open [where he finished third].

"So that's my third time with a chance to win it. I pulled it off this time."
