Irish golfer Paul McGinley has revealed that Lee Westwood is his pick to triumph at this week’s Masters at Augusta.

McGinley says that there’s no-one more deserving of the famous green jacket than the English golfer, who was recently ranked No. 1 in the world.

“He’s my pick. I think Lee’s career deserves a Major, none more so than the Masters,” McGinley told talkSPORT.

He’s my pick. I think Lee’s career deserves a Major, none more so than the Masters— Paul McGinley

“He did very well last year, but didn’t come out on top. I’d love to see Lee win because his career deserves it, he’s had a great career, he’s a great guy and he’s done great for Europe in the Ryder Cup over the years.”

McGinley also tipped fellow Englishman Luke Donald to shine at Augusta this week, but feels that this year’s Masters is wide open.

He added: “There’s a steeliness about Luke we that haven’t seen before, he’s after winning a big world championship event about two months ago, he’s got a very steady game, he’s not as short as everybody says he is, he does hit the ball a long way and he putts beautifully. He’s a guy that I think is going to be there or thereabouts this year.

“Everybody’s got a chance; the defining line between all these top guys is so, so small. I had dinner with Jack Nicklaus early in my career and one of the things he said was that for him putting and winning tournaments was 98 per cent inspiration and two per cent technique, and that’s what one of these guys needs to win this tournament.”
