David Beckham has revealed he wants to play for Great Britain at the Olympics next year.
The former England captain is the Samsung Olympic Ambassador, but is keen to take far more than a ceremonial role at the Games. And he is targeting a place in the GB football team.
He said: “So far I’ve heard I’m going to be managing, coaching, playing, so we’ll see. But I would like to be part of it in some way.
“I’d love to be a player in it, just to be part of that team would be pretty incredible.
“For a football team to play in the Olympics in England will be a huge thing, and I would love to be part of it in some way, and playing would be a bonus.
“I would be so proud to represent my country in the Olympics in the East End of London. It’s going to be such a huge sporting occasion. It inspires so many different people and it’s something we can all be proud of and all enjoy.”
