John Regis has told talkSPORT the support of a home crowd at London 2012 will ensure it is the one of the most successful Olympic Games ever for British athletes.

Team GB finished fourth in the 2008 Olympic medal table, their best performance in a century, as they returned from Beijing with 19 golds.

But Regis, who won Olympic silver as part of the 4x100m relay team in Seoul in 1988, has tipped British athletes to surpass that achievement next year, with the nation willing them on.

The performances, I can guarantee, in 2012 from Team GB, are going to be outstandinG— John Regis

“To compete in your own country, on your home turf, and know that all the fans there are supporting you 100 per cent and having that feeling when the announcer says your name and the crowd cheer, that sends a tingle down your spine," said Regis, speaking to Stubbs and Quinny.

"And it gives you such a lift that the performances, I can guarantee, in 2012 from Team GB, are going to be outstanding."

The London Games will begin a year from now and Regis can feel the excitement building already.

"I speak to a lot of people, I speak to a lot of individuals, and you can see it's beginning to pick up pace," he added. "Everybody is talking about the Olympics, everybody is talking about being part of it. Even people up in the north.

"You can see the way that the Olympic Park is taking shape. The million people coming for the two week extravaganza are going to have the time of their lives. To have an Olympic Games in our nation's capital, I am just so looking forward to being there."
