Lord Coe has stated that he will be very surprised if one million more adults aren’t playing sport after the London 2012 Olympics has passed.
Earlier this year the Conservative government had made plans to turn their back on one of the key legacy aims for the games, which had originally been stated by the previous administration.
The former 1500m Olympic gold winner, has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast though that he is confident that the aims will be reached.
He said: “It’s not really for me to question Government policy because we have always maintained that within the organising committee we steer clear of political priorities.
“What I will say though is that off the back of the games I would be very surprised, if we calibrated properly and really understand what was going on out there, if we hadn’t already got a one million more people doing something off the back of the games.
“I can’t believe that at the end of the process we’re not going to have am lot of kids who are going to be very excited about taking up different sports.”
