Jessica Ennis added European gold to her world title on Saturday night as she powered to victory in the heptathlon in Barcelona.

The golden girl of British athletics held off the challenge of Olympic champion Natalyia Dobrysnka to win the final event, the 800 metres, to give her a new Championship best of 6,823 points - 45 clear of her Ukranian rival.

It was a brilliant performance by Ennis, who led the multi-discipline event from start to finish.

It feels so good to win again. I had to raise my game and I'm so proud to come out on top— Jessica Ennis

She said: "It's been nerve-wracking having all the athletes on my heels. It feels so good to win again. I had to raise my game and I'm so proud to come out on top. "Before the 800m I just wanted to win and I have! I'm made up."

Ennis' win was one of three on a great evening for the British team in Barcelona's Olympic stadium. Dai Greence led a British one-two in the 400 metres hurdles as he beat team-mate Rhys Williams to gold, while Mo Farah claimed his second win of the event by taking the 5,000 metre title to add to the 10,000 metre crown he won earlier in the week.

Britain now has 16 medals at the championships, one more than was targeted by head coach Charles van Commenee.
