Novak Djokovic has won his first Wimbledon title with a convincing victory over previous holder Rafael Nadal.
On the eve of replacing Nadal as World number one 24-year-old Serb Djokovic came through 6-4 6-1 1-6 6-3 to carry on his remarkable year in which he has recorded 50 wins in 51 games.
Having beaten Nadal in four finals already this year Djokovic didn’t let up his form to deny the Spaniard an 11th Grand Slam in a dominant display.
After his victory the Serbian star was left virtually speechless saying: "It's really hard to describe in any words. It's the most special day of my life. It's my favourite tournament and I always dreamt of winning.
"I think I'm still sleeping and having a dream."
